To be fair the Euro games were a folly... I mean being goody goody's and getting entry... YOURS.. Bilic is old skool... he's taken one look at that comp' and thought... I'll use if for a nice warm up for the coming season and take the FA cup seriously....

Me and Slav' are so much on the same page it's unbelievable ... fuck it I bet he even calls Allardyce the Walrus as well...

Exactly. Bilic himself has said he'd rather win the FA Cup than finish in the top four.

OM - Not a dig at him. I understand the reason behind not risking our first teamers for it, and it is probably why we managed a good start with hopefully a strong finish to follow.

If we were in the shit in the league though, it would have been a very different side I think. Losing Kouyate and Reid to injury and having tired players from 120 minutes would be far more costly.

We are in the perfect position to go for it now though and I agree a cup win would be better than coming 4th.

Harsh that, Phaize.

It was a new team and basically pre season. I think he's played strong teams in the cups this season.

I think you can tell by his interviews what this cup means to him.

I have been saying on Twitter for quite some time now that I think Ogbonna should be starting every game. I think we defend better when he is in the team. He gives us balance because he's left footed. He's good in the air. His positioning is excellent. He's the most comfortable of all of our CBs when he has the ball at his feet.

He and Collins look likely to have an extended run going forward given Reid's injury last night and Tomkins already being out.

Just another great signing last Summer. We really didn't miss on much when it came to transfers last year.....

I wouldn't say Bilic takes all cups seriously as we bombed out of the Europa playing a bunch of kids. The league will always be priority as its where the club make their money.

I've noticed Payet has been playing wide left the last few games and it isnt working for him.

Last night when he had to move into the middle he played a lot better and had more influence on the game.

What is his true position? I always thought that a no.10 plays in the middle not wide?

See it as you like, he fielded a "weakened" team against Wolves and nearly come unstuck.

He makes changes to the cup side but because we have a bigger squad we're in a better position.

We went to WBA last season and played a strong side and lost, it happens.

So you give up on the Cups & League games against big teams?
Nice to have a manager who treats it as a full time job.

Re: West Ham v Liverpool - Official Match Thread FT 2-1 (aet)
Bilic cares about the cups, genuinely from all evidence and he was being honest when he said it, but he does know what to say when, which has to be a skill you have as manager these days.

That all said, I think the split between cup focus and league focus is somewhat artificial. Teams that do well in the league are able to do win in the FA Cup. Wigan and Portsmouth are the two exceptions I can think of in my memory. So your chance of winning the cup goes up greatly if you do well in the league, you just have think a bit long term.

I just don't see it like that 'roe, at least not in our position now. Winning the cup is equally as important as our league position.

Re: West Ham v Liverpool - Official Match Thread FT 2-1 (aet)
and that's the difference, we have a bigger, better squad so we can use the likes of Randolph, Ogbonna, O'Brien and Obiang without really losing any quality.

Re: West Ham v Liverpool - Official Match Thread FT 2-1 (aet)
I think winnings breeds confidence, so if you take every game and competition seriously, then hopefully it should all fit into place.

Obviously injuries can play a factor, so it's brilliant having our current squad and decent cover everywhere.

Re: West Ham v Liverpool - Official Match Thread FT 2-1 (aet)
The league has been priority hasn't it? I mean we can take the cup seriously because we've taken the league seriously? Or am I missing some subtle point?
